Derby Officer Struck By Car

A Derby police officer was taken by ambulance to Waterbury Hospital Tuesday after being struck by a vehicle.

Derby Storm Ambulance and medics were sent to the area of 166 Derby Ave. at about 6:50 p.m. Tuesday.

The officer had apparently pulled a female motorist over for a traffic violation.

The woman’s vehicle then broke down. The officer was assisting the woman when he was struck, apparently by a passing motorist on the busy road.

The officer was able to use his radio to request an ambulance. The officer’s name was not available.

An email seeking additional information was sent to Derby police Wednesday morning.

This is the second time in a month a Derby officer has been injured by a vehicle while on duty.

Last month Officer Jordan Gochros, the department’s canine officer, was injured after a traffic stop. He was OK.
