Dziekan: I Stand By My Comments

This is in response to a letter written in the Valley Independent by Mr. Bowen dated May 18, 2016.

I stand by my earlier comments. The firing of the director on the day of her father’s wake was heartless. There is no disputing that.

At the time, the director was not being charged with any criminal offense. Mayor Dugatto admitted she was unaware of any criminal offense having taken place. It was just a political firing. Subsequently, the Mayor’s office launched an investigation into irregularities in the director’s office.

As a retired police officer from the Town of Hamden and a current Constable in the Town of Bethany, I may be a little more cynical than most. As a leader of a City, you need to have the right people in charge.

In addition to that, you need to lead. The lack of leadership in this administration continues to be alarming. You need to look into the day-to-day operations of the City and audit the departments. Maybe if this current administration didn’t have seven finance officers in the past 2 ½ years someone would have picked this up sooner.

That’s a lot of hands in the pot. That’s clearly a lack of leadership and direction. Do I condone the actions of the Director, absolutely not, but I certainly am justified in questioning the timing of the decision and the fact that there was no one watching these departments. Where’s the leadership and direction?
