Expert Reviewing Medical Records In Ansonia Baby’s Death

The defense attorney for Angel Santiago, 35, has sent medical reports from the death of an Ansonia baby to an expert in Michigan for review.

Santiago, a West Haven Resident, is accused of causing the death of the 5‑month-old boy, Kyle Robinson, in June 2011.

A brief hearing for Santiago was held at Superior Court in Milford Tuesday, during which time Santiago did not appear.

Santiago’s attorney, public defender David Egan, declined to comment on the case. He would not say who the expert in Michigan is.

The doctor who performed the autopsy concluded Kyle Robinson died from blunt force trauma and ruled the death a homicide.

The 10-page arrest warrant used to charge Santiago does not provide a concise explanation of what happened to baby Kyle.

The warrant relies on statements from several doctors who determined Kyle died from injuries received shortly before he was brought to the hospital.

Police allege Santiago is the only person who could have done it, partly because he was the only adult watching the baby at the time.

Santiago was dating the baby’s mother at the time of Kyle’s death.

Santiago has been held on $1 million bond since his arrest last December. His case was continued to July 17.

He faces charges of first-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault, and risk of injury to a child and has pleaded not guilty in the case.

State’s Attorney Kevin Lawlor declined to comment Tuesday.
