A fire gutted an apartment on Ansonia’s Olson Drive Wednesday afternoon.

There were no injuries.

Ansonia firefighters were dispatched to 118 – 135 Olson Drive in the Riverside Apartments about 3:30 p.m. on a report of a structure fire.

Ansonia Fire Department Assistant Chief Michael Eheman said crews arrived to find a fire in one of the building’s apartments.

Neighbors said the apartment’s tenant was not inside when the blaze began, but the woman living in the apartment left a comment saying her neighbors were wrong and that she was, in fact, in the apartment when the fire started.

See the comment section at the bottom of this article for more info.

Firefighters entered, knocked the flames down, and searched the apartment, but no one was inside, Eheman said.

The blaze rendered the apartment uninhabitable, Eheman said, but the damage was contained to that unit.

Basically all the apartments are the same — concrete walls, concrete ceilings, concrete floors — so it’s always contained to one apartment,” he said.

Fire officials were trying to locate the apartment’s tenant as of about 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Fire Marshal Ralph Tingley was also on scene to investigate the blaze’s cause and origin.
