Firefighters Extinguish Brush Blaze At Ansonia Nature Center

Firefighters from Ansonia and Derby extinguished a brush fire in the woods of the Ansonia Nature Center Saturday afternoon.

There were no injuries reported.

Saturday was extremely dry, so much so the National Weather Service warned the area was at risk for brush fires.

In fact, Saturday’s brush fire was the second time Ansonia firefighters were at the Nature Center off Deerfield Road. They had been there earlier Saturday to investigate a smoke in the area” report.

The brush fire burned an area about 600 feet wide and 300 feet or so long.

There was no official cause determined as of Saturday afternoon, but firefighters on scene thought it may have been started by a campfire.

An employee with the Nature Center contacted police to report the event.

The brush fire itself was about a quarter of a mile into the Nature Center’s trail system.

A brush truck and off-road vehicle from Derby were brought in to help extinguish the flames.

Roughly 40 firefighters responded Saturday afternoon.
