The Derby Fire Marshal is investigating was sparked a fire at a multi-family house on Cottage Street Friday evening.
There were no injuries.
Emergency crews were sent to 10 Cottage St. at about 5:30 p.m. after a report of a structure fire.
“Firefighters arrived and found a fire on the second floor front porch and went to work extinguishing it,” Derby Fire Department Assistant Chief David Lenart said.
The two-story house was built in 1915, according to publicly available land records. The story continues after the Facebook post.
Then, in Seymour, fire and ambulance crews responded to a reported structure fire at 18 French St. Friday at 9:46 p.m.
No injuries were reported, and the people living in the house were not displaced. Click here for info from the Seymour FD.
According to emergency radio transmissions, a woman at the address said an ash tray had been left on a deck. She thought the ashes had been extinguished, but saw smoke coming from the home’s siding.
A firefighter on scene then confirmed there was a fire under the siding.
Firefighters stretched a water line and broke open the wall to extinguish the blaze.
A fire marshal’s office is investigating.
Derby emergency crews also responded to a possible natural gas leak at 33 Roosevelt Drive at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Eversource, the gas utility company, was called to the scene.
