Forum On Food Waste Recycling Facility Slated For Thursday In Ansonia

There is a public forum scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 25 in Ansonia City Hall on a company’s proposal to build a food waste recycling on North Division Street.

The forum starts at 7 p.m.

Greenpoint Energy Partners of Brooklyn, N.Y. wants to build a roughly $20.5 million anaerobic digestion facility on city-owned land near the Ansonia sewage treatment facility.

The announcement sent by Mayor David Cassetti’s office is embedded below:

Back in January 2013, the city hosted a public forum during which Greenpoint and its partners explained, in great detail, their plans for the anaerobic digestion facility, which, if approved, would be built on city-owned land next to the Ansonia sewage treatment plant on North Division Street, not far from Stop & Shop.

The facility would accept up to 50,000 tons of food waste from the area per year, break it down in the plant, and recycle it as energy for the city to use.
