Go Green For Pink, a St. Patrick’s Day party and fundraiser is scheduled for Friday, March 18, 2011 starting at 7:00 p.m. at the Colonial Tavern on Hawley Road.
Those attending will enjoy refreshments, a cash bar, and a DJ and dancing. There will also be a raffle, silent auction, and prizes for the “grooviest green get-ups”. Raffle/silent auction items include an IPod Shuffle, restaurant certificates, gift baskets, bottles of wine, fine jewelry, tickets to Connecticut attractions, and more.
Net proceeds generated from this “party with a purpose,” will be donated to Susan G. Koman for the CureTM.
The party is hosted by team “Hoofin’ it for Healthy Hooters” who will be participating in the Koman for the Cure 3‑day/60-mile walk in Boston, MA this July. The team is made up of Oxford residents, Tina Aldo, Jennifer Coan-Mahmood, Kelly Donohue, and Tara Gurecki. Each walker must raise a minimum of $2,300 in donations to participate in the walk. Funds from the Komen 3‑day events are invested in breast cancer research, education, and community outreach programs.
On why they’ve taken up this cause, Coan-Mahmood said, “Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer and is the leading cause of death among women worldwide. Somewhere in the world, a woman dies from breast cancer every 69 seconds. That’s why we’re walking so far – to do something bold about this disease. Breast Cancer affects virtually everyone, weather you’ve battled it yourself or know someone who has. We walk for us, for our daughters, for all the women in our lives, and all the women in yours.
