Guest Column: Would You Want ‘Shelter Ridge’ Development Next To Your House?

photo:ethan fryThere has been much publicity in regard to the requested zone change from the existing LIP zone to a PDD zone on property abutting Bridgeport Avenue, Mill Street and Buddington Road in Shelton.

I believe that when reading and studying paper prints and printed information it is difficult to distinguish the visual height difference between the two zones.

Perhaps if one takes a ride around the area abutting Huntington Street, Trap Falls Road Extension, Bridgeport Avenue and Commerce Drive one could see how easy or difficult it is to distinguish visually the height difference between the two zones. Compare the structures on the LIP zone with the PDD zone.

Ask yourself if the requested PDD zone is what you would accept close to or abutting your neighborhood area. Then try to place yourself in the shoes of the neighbors that are directly or indirectly affected by the requested zone change.

Click here to download the city’s zoning designations.

This information may be able to assist those interested parties wanting to learn more about the differences between the zones and help to make a determination on whether or not the PDD zone belongs near residential neighborhoods.
