Internet Safety Seminar March 11 In Seymour

On Wednesday March 11, 2015 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Seymour Middle School, 211 Mountain Road, Seymour Public Schools is presenting an evening of Internet Safety.

The presentation is open to any parent from Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Derby, Oxford, Seymour or Shelton who wants to learn about the new internet trends and techniques that are being used on-line by the predators and by our children.

Parents are encouraged to attend this very informative event.” said Seymour Public Schools Associate Superintendent of Schools, Nancy Snopkowski, who organized the event.

The program is being presented by Internet Safety Expert, Scott Driscoll, of Internet Safety Concepts.

Driscoll will give parents tips on what to do to prevent a dangerous situation from happening. Parents will see firsthand how what their children do on-line now can have long term negative effects on their future. Parents will learn the tools and strategies they can use to keep their families safe.

Some of the areas Driscoll is set to cover are: social networking, texting/sexting, cyber bullying, picture sharing, gaming sites/apps, video chats, geo-tagging and creating a digital footprint.

According to Driscoll, Parents need to improve their Internet safety skills, not due to a lack of trust of their own children, but due to the fact that our children are sharing information about themselves with millions of people. Not all of those millions are nice and honest people.”

Driscoll’s presentation will provide guidance to parents in the ever changing digital world to be alert to the challenges children face every day on the Internet.

This program is intended for parents only. If anyone has questions about the presentation please contact Rich Kearns, Director of Security, Seymour Public Schools at 203 – 888-2561 ext. 1003.
