The National Weather Service is predicting a major snowstorm to create blizzard conditions in the area starting around 3 a.m. Tuesday.
As much as two feet of snow could fall, according to a Monday afternoon forecast.
School officials in Ansonia, Derby, Shelton, Seymour, and Oxford announced Monday schools would not open Tuesday.
The Ansonia Police Department issued a press release Monday saying a parking ban was starting at 6 p.m.
It “will be in effect until further notice for all streets in the city,” according to Ansonia police. “There will no on street parking allowed; vehicles in violation will be towed.”
Ansonia residents may use the following city owned parking lots for parking:
- Main Street Municipal Lot
- East Main Street Municipal Lot
- West Main Street Municipal Lot
- Ansonia High School 20 Pulaski Highway
- Ansonia Middle School 115 Howard Avenue
- Prendergast School 59 Finney Street
- Mead School 75 Ford Street
- Nolan Field Wakelee Avenue
- Ansonia Armory North Cliff Street
- Colony Park Colony Street

In Derby, Second Ward Alderman Art Gerckens used social media to tell the public the mayor and the public works director are ready for the blizzard.
Gerckens also shared information from and links to the Derby Office of Emergency Management.

In Seymour, the Office of the First Selectman urged people to stay tuned.
“I ask that all residents stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary,” Seymour First Selectman Kurt Miller said.
Miller issued a “Code Red” announcement at about 6 p.m. Monday:
This is the Office of the First Selectman with a public safety announcement utilizing the Code Red System. With Winter Storm Stella, we are expecting approximately 14 – 28 inches of total snowfall with 1 – 3 inches falling per hour and winds as high as 55 miles per hour.
As a result, municipal offices will be closed Tuesday, March 14. Garbage and recycling pickup has also been canceled Tuesday and will be delayed by one day for the rest of the week. Please do not put your cans out tonight. We also ask that you stay off the roads as much as possible to allow Public Works to clear them.
Due to the heavy rate at which it is expected to fall and the near whiteout conditions, public safety is our primary concern. We will provide more updates as necessary. Please make sure to check our website and Facebook page for updates. Thank you and stay safe.
In Shelton, police announced a parking ban on Facebook 7 p.m. Monday:
A snow emergency has been declared in the City of Shelton due to the most recent forecast. There shall be no on street parking beginning tonight. Residents are encouraged to limit their driving on city roads during the storm to allow for emergency vehicles and road crews to perform their jobs. All trash and recycling pick up has been suspended for tomorrow.
Shelton Police School Resource Officer Mary Beth White asked people not to drive in hazardous conditions.
“Keeping unnecessary vehicles off the road will help plows remove the snow more efficiently,” she said.
