Jones Wins Facebook Farm ‘Fight’

Look for some out-of-place farmers at Jones Family Farms this month.

After winning the great Facebook Farm Fight last week, Jones Family Farms secured bragging rights and a day of work out of a crew from friendly rival Bishop’s Orchards in Guilford.

The two farms announced the competition in late October as a way to market their farms, donate to charity and have some fun. The goal was to get the most new Facebook fans by Thanksgiving.

By 8 a.m. Nov. 27, Jones Family Farms had secured 1,195 more new Facebook fans than Bishop’s did in the same time period, according to Keith Padin, a spokesperson for Jones Family Farms.

To keep the competition community focused, the two farms said they would donate $1 to charity for each Facebook fan that signed up, with a cap at 5,000 fans.

The two farms got a combined 8,179 new fans, meaning they hit the 5,000 fan threshold and will donate a combined $5,000 to the Valley United Way, the Guilford Community Fund and the Working Lands Alliance.

Here’s the tally, according to Padin:

Jones had 1,119 fans when the competition and got 4,687 new people to sign up, for a total of 5,806 fans.

Bishop’s started with 1,437 and got 3,492 new fans, for a total of 4,929.

Padin said crews from Bishop’s could come to Jones as early as next Monday.
