JULY 2016 DERBY-SHELTON FIREWORKS POSTPONED

The annual Derby-Shelton fireworks display scheduled for Friday has been pushed until Sunday, July 3 at 9 p.m.

The display is held on either side of the Housatonic River in the two cities’ downtowns.

The change was announced at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Derby Town Clerk Marc Garofalo sent an email to the Valley Indy saying:

Mayor Dugatto has been informed that the Derby Shelton Fireworks will be postponed until Sunday July 3, 2016 due to the anticipated inclement weather tomorrow evening.

We regret any inconvenience and wish you a happy and safe 4th of July weekend.

Thank you,

Marc J. Garofalo, MPA, CCTC

Prior to the fireworks, there is a free concert on the Derby Green. It’s been switched to Sunday, too.

Reporter Ethan Fry called Shelton Community Center. Officials there confirmed the change, too.

On Friday Shelton police sent out a notice advising residents that at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Howe Avenue will be closed to all traffic from Center Street to Wharf Street for the concert and fireworks.

Vehicles may be parked on Howe Ave prior to 7:30 p.m., but no vehicles will be allowed in or out until the event has concluded,” police said.

FB Lily will perform at 7 p.m. at the corner of Elizabeth and Main streets, according to a flier from the Derby Cultural Commission.

Meanwhile, the CT Symphonic Orchestra will perform on the Shelton side of the Housatonic River at 7 p.m. along the Riverwalk. That concert is free, too.
