Letter: Happy Birthday, Phil Tripp

It is with great honor and delectation that I wish a good friend of mine, and a true leader, a happy birthday. I am of course talking about retired Lieutenant Colonel Philip Tripp.

Phil has had a great impact on my life, just as he has had on a plethora of lives in our community. As a dedicated alderman, Phil’s rapport with the populace of his ward, and the entire city, trumps many of those who hold the same title as him. Phil has fought tooth and nail for more appropriately funding our school system, as well as our domestic heroes, the great men and women of Ansonia Police Department, Ansonia Fire Department, and Ansonia Rescue Medical Services.

As service men and women, we often think about how our military values, customs, and traditions, will translate over to civilian life. Phil has seamlessly made this transition, and it shows through his passion for his community. We are taught to fight for what is right in the face of adversary, and Phil has exemplified this on a number of occasions.

Beyond all of this however, is Phil’s character. Words like honesty, integrity, and courage come to mind when describing him. As a community leader, Phil embodies what everyone in a leadership position should strive to be. Phil’s transparency and tact is something that should be emulated, as it is rare to find officials with such outstanding values anymore.

Once more, I wish Phil Tripp nothing but the best as we celebrate his birthday today, and I thank you for everything you have done for me, my community, and my city.
