Listen For The Sirens, Then Wave To Santa

The East End Hose Co. on Hawthorne Avenue in Derby during last year’s Popcorn Ball Sunday.

It’s Popcorn Ball Sunday in the Valley!

On Dec. 17, Santa will be riding fire trucks in Ansonia, Derby and Seymour to toss sticky popcorn balls to lucky youngsters and youngsters at heart.

Popcorn Ball Sunday is usually the Sunday before Christmas, though some departments have already held their event.

In Ansonia, Popcorn Ball Sunday lasts all day, according to a Facebook post from the city. Listen for the sirens!

Take a gander at the city’s post below:

In east Derby, trucks will hit the road starting at about 10 a.m. Those trucks will include members from East End Hose who will be delivering presents to kids whose parents signed up for drop offs.

In west Derby, members from Derby Storm Ambulance and Rescue Corps will conduct a boot drive to raise money in the morning, and then head out for Popcorn Ball Sunday about noon or so.

Keep in mind Popcorn Ball Sunday is unpredictable, and could be delayed if the volunteer firefighters have to answer the call of duty.

Here’s a Facebook post last week from the Storms:

In Seymour, Santa and the fire trucks will hit the road about 9 a.m. Sunday.

Again, listen for those sirens!

Here’s a Facebook post from Citizens’ Engine Co. No. 2.:

A very big thank you to the volunteer firefighters who make this tradition happen, and a happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas to our readers!
