The State Elections and Enforcement Commission announced that George Logan — a political newcomer running for State Senate in the 17th Senatorial District — successfully qualified for the Citizens’ Election Program.

The Citizens’ Election Program was established to keep special interests out of Connecticut campaigns. In order to qualify for the program, Logan had to raise $15,000 from at least 300 residents living in Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Bethany, Derby, Hamden, Naugatuck and Woodbridge. The contributions may come from individuals — no state contractors — and must be between $5 and $100.

(The) announcement shows that our message is resonating with hundreds of families in the 17th Senatorial District,” Logan said. I am meeting voters across the district, listening to their concerns and speaking to them about my solutions to move Connecticut in a new direction, one that fosters better opportunities for a better Connecticut. I look forward to spreading my positive message during the campaign and I trust voters will see the clear difference between leadership that has led to our decline as a state and my vision for a stronger economy, a smaller, honest state budget and intelligent health and education support.”

The Logan campaign said the grant has been received ahead of incumbent Sen. Joe Crisco’s application – indicating the clear support voters in the 17th district are showing for a change in leadership in Hartford.

While I expect Joe Crisco will eventually reach the donor and dollar threshold, it’s telling that a first time candidate has so quickly beat a 20 plus year sitting senator to the punch. I’m appreciative of all who have shown their support and look to expanding that support through an aggressive, honest campaign,” Logan said.

Logan lives in Ansonia with his wife, Lisa, and their two children, Hunter and Tracey. He has spent most of his professional life working through the ranks of Aquarion Water Company.

In addition, Logan is a board member at Griffin Hospital, the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA and Junior Achievement of Western Connecticut.
