Route 34 over the Stevenson Dam will be closed overnight starting in October so the company can continue making safety repairs on the bridge.

The bridge will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Friday, from Oct. 6 through Dec. 1.

The company issued a press release advising the public on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

The bridge repairs come recommended from the state’s Department of Transportation.

The press release notes Route 34 over the dam will remain open during the morning and evening rush hours.

Additionally work will be halted during the Thanksgiving holiday; stopping on Wednesday Nov. 23, 2016 and resuming on Monday, Nov. 28, 2016 to allow for holiday traffic to pass over the bridge,” according to the company’s statement.

According to a spokesman, The contractor will be repairing and re-coating the corroded girders below the open decking (the metal grates you drive on at the Oxford end of the bridge), at the east end of the bridge over the tainter gates, and repairing the underside of selected concrete T‑beams in the middle of the bridge by patching areas of exposed rebar with concrete.”

FirstLight owns the bridge and the hydroelectric generation station at the site.

Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour signs and follow the directions of the uniformed police officers,” the statement read.
