Man Dies After Being Struck By Car In Derby

A 57-year-old man died after being struck by a car in Derby on Route 34 near Chapel Street Thursday.

The man’s name was not released, as police were attempting to notify his family.

Derby police Lt. Justin Stanko released a statement overnight saying the accident happened at 11:59 p.m.

The man was hit on the eastbound side of Route 34.

Police are withholding his identity pending next of kin notification,” Stanko said. The preliminary investigation does not show the operator to be at fault in the accident.”

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the accident to call the department at 203 735 7811. Calls will remain confidential.

Route 34 east was closed for three hours as police investigated. It was open as of 3 a.m.
