Man Enters Not Guilty Plea In Connection To Ansonia Baby’s Death

The West Haven man accused of causing the death of a 5‑month-old Ansonia boy offered a not guilty plea in Superior Court in Milford on Thursday.

Santiago, 35, was charged with first-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault and first-degree risk of injury to a child after 5‑month-old Kyle Robinson’s death.

Kyle died on June 12.

Santiago was arrested in December, after police obtained an arrest warrant for him.

Kyle died from blunt force trauma, and the death was ruled a homicide, according to the arrest warrant.

Doctors quoted in the arrest warrant said Kyle’s injuries were indicative of severe trauma,” and violent shaking.” Click here for a previous article outlining the charges against Santiago.

Santiago, in an interview with WFSB immediately before his arrest, denied hurting the child.

At his brief court appearance Thursday, Santiago did not speak. His plea was entered by his public defender.

Judge Richard Arnold said the prosecutors have received a large amount of information in the case, including medical records.

But prosecutors are still receiving information. It’s still early in the case, according to State’s Attorney Kevin D. Lawlor.

Santiago remains incarcerated, held on a $1 million bond.

Santiago is due back in court April 11.
