Man Struck By Car On Pershing Drive In Derby

A 65-year-old man was taken to Bridgeport Hospital after being struck by a car on Pershing Drive in Derby Friday.

The man’s name was not available. He was hit by a small SUV and suffered extensive injuries to his lower extremities. 

His condition wasn’t known Friday. The accident happened about 6:30 p.m. near a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant.

Further information was not available Friday.

At about 6 p.m., Derby firefighters were called to investigate a strong propane smell coming from the Suburban Propane facility on Water Street.

Firefighters found several nearly empty propane tanks had been left open. Firefighters closed the tanks and called the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to further investigate.
