The medical examiner’s office has not released a cause or manner of death, as the matter is pending further study.” That usually means the examiners are awaiting toxicology or similar tests before issuing a cause of death. It is routine.

Post from Tuesday follows:

A 33-year-old man from Ansonia is dead after drowning in the reservoir at Witek Park in Derby overnight.

Derby Police Lt. Justin Stanko said the man’s family called police early Tuesday morning because the man, whose name was not released, had not returned home from a late-night fishing session.

Police discovered the man’s body near the dam along Sentinel Hill Road at about 6 a.m., Stanko said. He apparently drowned.

There were no obvious signs of foul play.

Police believe the incident was an accident.

However, the medical examiner’s office will have to perform an autopsy. Toxicology tests will be performed as well.

Police, fire, EMS and representatives from the medical examiner’s office were on the scene as of 9:40 a.m.

The man was fishing alone, something he did quite regularly in Witek Park, police said.

The man had been fishing next to the dam, on the shore.

The Shelton dive team was called to help retrieve the body.
