Memorial Day Events And Parade Info 2015

Josalee Thrift for The Valley IndyMonday, May 25 is Memorial Day.

Towns and cities in the lower Naugatuck Valley will be honoring the memory of people who died while serving the U.S. in the military.

The events are scheduled for both Sunday, May 24 and Monday, May 25. 

Not all towns send out info about the parades and supplemental info, such as parking bans.

We post everything we can find, and we will update the list below if and when more information is received.

SEYMOUR PARADE INFO

10:45 a.m.

Starts at French Memorial Park, then along Route 67

Expected to end at 1:45 p.m.

U.S. Army Gen. George S. Patton’s grandson, Robert H. Patton, is scheduled to speak at about 11 a.m. at a podium on Main Street, according to the New Haven Register.

ANSONIA PARADE INFO

2 p.m.

Starts at the Nolan Field complex on Wakelee Avenue.

Goes from Wakelee to Jackson Street, to Maple Street, over the Maple Street bridge, to Main Street, ends at the Big Y.

DERBY-SHELTON MEMORIAL SERVICE INFO

Shelton High School
120 Meadow St.

Ceremony starts at 7:30 p.m.
Doors open at 6:45 p.m.

During the ceremony the names of veterans from Derby and Shelton who have died in the past year are read aloud.

DERBY-SHELTON PARADE INFO

Starts at 9 a.m. on Howe Avenue in Shelton by the exit 14 ramp to Route 8.

(Please note the starting location. Usually the Memorial Day Parade starting point switches every year. Technically it’s Derby’s turn to start, but, for logistical reasons, the parade will be starting in Shelton again this year)

The parade will go from Kneen Street, to Coram Avenue, to White Street, to Howe Avenue, and then over the Derby-Shelton Bridge, where the route will follow into Derby.

In Derby the parade will go east on Main Street, then up Elizabeth Street toward Derby Public Library.

OXFORD RACE AND PARADE INFO

Seventh Annual Memorial Day 5K Freedom Run
8 a.m.

The race starts at the Oxford Town Hall, 486 Oxford Road, and goes south on Route 67 to the Pleasant Valley Shopping Center and back to Oxford Town Hall.

Oxford Memorial Day Parade
11 a.m.

The headquarters will be at the junction of Pleasant Valley Shopping Center and Route 67.

The parade will halt briefly at Victory Memorial Park and the World War I monument and then to Oxford Town Hall.
