Men Charged With Breaking Into Shelton Homes

Shelton police have charged two men they say forced their way into three homes Thursday and made off with electronics, jewelry, and a gun.

The pair were stopped at a gas station by Shelton and Seymour police, where cops found the stolen gun in their car, police said in a prepared statement.

Arrested were Nicholas Boland, of Shelton, and William Kopley, of Waterbury. Both are 19.

Police were called to three residential burglaries on the city’s south side Thursday.

During each of the burglaries, forced entry was made into each residence and electronics were stolen. Jewelry and a firearm were also reported stolen from one residence,” Detective Christopher Nugent said in a statement.

Detectives investigating the incident developed an area resident as a suspect and Shelton Police Detectives were able to obtain a search warrant to search his residence. At the time of the search warrant the suspect was not at the residence,” Nugent said.

Through conducting interviews Shelton Detectives with the assistance of the Seymour Police Department were able to locate the suspect at a gas station on the Ansonia/Seymour line.”

Nugent said police officers stopped the vehicle in the parking lot, found the stolen gun, and arrested Boland and Kopley. A third man in the car was not charged.

Police charged Boland with theft of a firearm and criminal possession of a firearm. Kopley was charged with theft of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, and possession of weapons in a motor vehicle.

Police said Boland was held on a $150,000 bond and Kopley was released after posting a $2,000 bond to appear at Superior Court in Derby March 17. Updated court information for Boland was not available Friday.

Police said more arrests are expected.
