Milford Man Charged With Shelton Robbery

Shelton police have charged a 35-year-old Milford man with robbing a River Road sandwich shop last month.

James Karpicky faces charges of first-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny in connection with the stick-up, which occurred Dec. 7 at the Subway restaurant at 815 River Road.

A female employee at the restaurant reported that a male wearing a ski mask entered the store and stuck an object in her back simulating that he had a hand gun,” Detective Richard Bango said in a prepared statement.

The man then demanded the employee empty the cash register before he drove away in a Mini Cooper, Bango said.

A joint investigation between Shelton, Milford and Trumbull Police Departments developed Karpicky as suspect in this and several other Fairfield County robberies,” Bango said. Other arrests are expected.”

According to Correction Department records, Karpicky has been in jail since December, when he was charged in a separate Shelton case with third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny.

Karpicky also faces robbery charges in Trumbull and Milford, according to court records.

Updated court information was unavailable Tuesday afternoon.
