‘Minor’ Injuries After Route 8 Rollover

ETHAN FRY PHOTOA 30-year-old Waterbury man suffered minor injuries after flipping a car on Route 8 Friday afternoon.

State police said Raymond Anthony Ortiz was driving a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta north in the left lane between exits 17 and 18 at about 2:40 p.m. when he veered left and hit a concrete barrier.

The vehicle then rolled over.

Police did not provide any reason as to why Ortiz allegedly swerved into the barrier.

He was wearing his seat belt and was further protected by the car’s airbag.

An ambulance from Ansonia Rescue Medical Services took Ortiz to Waterbury Hospital.

State police said Ortiz was at fault for the wreck and issued three tickets for failure to stay in the proper lane, insufficient insurance and improper use of registration. The last ticket wasn’t explained.

The crash tied up traffic on Route 8 for about an hour Friday.
