UPDATE: Derby Bridge To Be Closed Overnight Starting May 12

UPDATE: The Valley Indy received word late Friday that the overnight bridge closure has been pushed to TUESDAY, May 12, starting at 10 p.m.

There was a delay in getting some materials for the job, apparently.

The bridge could be scheduled for as much as three nights, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night.

Original post follows:

The bridge carrying Route 34 over the Naugatuck River in Derby will be closed overnight from May 10 to May 15 for construction work, the state’s Department of Transportation has announced.

The bridge will be closed in both directions on those days from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., according to the DOT.

The closure will allow construction crews to install new steel beams needed to repair and widen the bridge.

A detour will follow Route 115 (Derby Avenue), Division Street in Ansonia to cross the Naugatuck River, Pershing Drive, and Route 8, according to the DOT.

Detour signs will be posted and cops will be on hand to help with traffic control.

One lane will remain open for pedestrians and emergency vehicles only.

The bridge work began last spring and is scheduled to be completed November 2016, at a cost of $8.8 million.
