Oxford Man Injured In Derby Crash

A 26-year-old Oxford man was injured after crashing his car into a rock ledge on Route 34 in Derby Tuesday night.

Police said firefighters had to use the jaws of life to cut Adam Visokay from his vehicle immediately after the wreck. He was taken to St. Vincent Hospital’s on a trauma alert. His condition was not immediately available Wednesday morning.

According to a narrative provided by Derby police, Visokay was driving on Route 34 near Lakeview Terrace at about 6:45 p.m. when he struck the rock ledge on the road’s right shoulder. The vehicle then spun across the road.

Route 34 was closed while police conducted an investigation and a tow truck cleared the scene.

Visokay was given a warning for failing to stay in the proper lane.

Crashes are common on that stretch of Route 34. Derby resident Marie Lepri was killed in a head-on car crash there in June 2010. The driver of the other vehicle, Christmas Neustadter, of New Haven, was charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle in connection to the crash.

Neustadter is next due in Derby court Dec. 5.
