Oxford Schools Seek Preschool Peer Models

Oxford Public Schools is offering a Preschool Peer Model Program.

This is an exciting educational opportunity for selected preschool children. The Preschool Program is located at Quaker Farms School and is looking for four year old children to participate in the pre-school classroom as role models for their peers with special needs. In order to be considered, students must be 4 by August 2015 and be an Oxford resident.

The Oxford Preschool is an interdisciplinary, language/literature/motor/play-based program whose curriculum is based upon the Connecticut Framework for its design and planned activities. We see the role of teachers as supporters of development and, as such, our role is to promote active learning on the part of the child.

Our goal is to provide an appropriate learning environment incorporating both early childhood special education and developmental preschool programs, to prepare all children, those with disabilities and peer models, for the greatest opportunities for educational success. We understand that our children learn best through self-initiated activity; therefore, our learning activities reflect this philosophy. Children selected as role models will participate in an age appropriate curriculum that will foster cognitive and social growth in preparation for kindergarten.

The Peer Model Program runs 5 days a week and will follow the Oxford Public Schools calendar. Morning sessions are held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and afternoon sessions are from 1:00 to 3:15 p.m.

Tuition is $2,200.00/$60.00 per week. Busing is available for an additional $1,200.00/$33.00 per week.

Tuition is available on a sliding scale if a financial need exists.

The application is available online on the Oxford Public School website. Please fill out the application and email it to: [email protected] OR mail the application to Pupil Personnel Services, 1 Great Hill Road, Oxford, CT 06478 OR fax it to 203 – 881-5038.

Children will be screened and selected based on strong language skills and appropriate social/peer interactions. The screening and selection process will take place at Quaker Farms School. You will be notified with a screening date. Decisions will be based upon screening. For further information, please call the office of Pupil Personnel Services at 203 – 881-2599.
