Police Charge Teen In Connection To Car Break-Ins

Seymour police Tuesday announced the arrest of an underage suspect in connection to a string of motor vehicle break-ins that plagued the community in March.

The 16-year-old boy was charged Aug. 11 at the Connecticut Juvenile Training Center, a juvenile jail for people between 12 and 20, where he was already serving time for another, unspecified crime, according to a statement from Seymour Police Department Deputy Chief Paul Satkowski.

The teen’s name was not available due to his age (and state law).

Seymour police charged him with nine counts of sixth-degree larceny, seven counts of sixth-degree criminal attempt to commit larceny, and one count of second-degree larceny.

Detectives continue to investigate other vehicles that have been broken into throughout the town which have occurred during the summer months.

According to police, the teen, who lived in Waterbury, and several other juveniles broke into several” unlocked motor vehicles in Seymour in March.

They stole cash, GPS units, gift cards, cell phones, prescription meds and other items of value,” according to the police statement.

Police further allege the teens stole one of the cars to get out of the area.

Streets hit included:

  • Seymour Avenue
  • Emma Street
  • Rocky Glen
  • Bungay Court
  • Summit Drive

Residents are reminded to lock their vehicles at ALL times and remove any items of value from the vehicle,” Satkowski said in the statement. They are also asked to contact the Seymour Police Department immediately if they observe suspicious persons or vehicles in their neighborhood.”
