Police: Derby Man Robbed Ansonia Bank

Rowley

Ansonia police said a 26-year-old Derby man admitted to robbing a bank on Division Street Thursday.

Bruce Rowley was charged with second-degree robbery and fourth-degree larceny.

He was charged after two people identified him in widely-circulated photos from Thursday’s robbery.

Police used that information to get a search warrant for Rowley’s Jeep and his residence. Police also put out a nationwide alert, telling other cops to be on the lookout for the Jeep.

His Jeep was spotted on Interstate 95 south in Rhode Island Thursday by a Rhode Island state trooper, but Rowley allegedly would not pull over.

He led police on a chase south into Connecticut, where state police out of Montville joined in.

The pursuit ended at exit 89 on I‑95 in Connecticut after troopers used spike strips to flatten the tires on Rowley’s Jeep,” Ansonia Police Lt. Patrick Lynch said. While being taken into custody a Rhode Island State Police (dog) bit Rowley in the arm.”

Police said Rowley admitted to robbing the Webster Bank. He is scheduled to be arraigned today (Friday, April 6).
