Police: Shelton Man Takes Money But Does No Work

A 35-year-old Shelton man was charged Thursday with taking money for a kitchen renovation project, then never showing up to start the job.

According to a prepared statement from Milford police, Timothy Kovalsky was hired to do a kitchen job for a resident on Hauser Street in Milford.

He received a partial payment of $2,886.87, according to police, and signed a contract to do the work.

But Kovalsky never went back to do the work, police allege, and refused to refund the money.

Police also said Kovalsky’s home improvement contractor’s certificate expired in 2012.

Kovalsky was charged with performing a home improvement project without a valid certificate, failure to refund a home improvement payment and third-degree larceny.

He was also charged with second-degree failure to appear in court after police discovered he had a pending, unresolved criminal case out of Bantam court.

Kovalsky is due in court in Milford on May 19.
