Looking for a fun place to run (or walk) a 5K course on Memorial Day?
Oxford Parks and Recreation is proud to announce it is hosting our 6th Annual Memorial Day 5K Freedom Run on Monday, May 26th at 8 a.m.
The race starts at the Oxford Town Hall, 486 Oxford Road and goes south on Rt 67 to the Pleasant Valley Shopping Center and back to Town Hall.
The course has been USATF certified.
All net proceeds will go to members of the active and veteran military. Proceeds from last year’s race benefited The Wounded Warrior Project, the American Legion and The American Warrior Connecticut Day of Honor.
Last year’s proceeds were in excess of $10,000, with race sponsor having been Valley Community Foundation. The Freedom Run Committee donated proceeds as follows: $5,000.00 to Oxford American Legion, $4,000.00 Wounded Warrior Project and $1,000.00 to the American Warrior Program.
Walkers are also welcome to participate in the 2 mile fitness walk.
The cost to participate is $25 per person if you register in advance, $30 on the day.
Veterans and active military personnel may participate for FREE!
Wheelchairs and Baby Joggers are also welcome!
The first 300 registrants will receive a commemorative race T‑shirt so register early to guarantee yours. Prizes will be awarded in various categories.
Due to its overwhelming popularity, we will also once again hold the Kids Rock Hopper Fun Run.
Kids ages 5 – 12 will run from the Town Hall to Oxford Center School and back for a total of ½ mile.
The Rock Hopper Fun Run registration fee is $10 and the first 100 kids to register will receive fun gifts.
