Reward Offered For Info On Shelton Burglary

A Shelton mother thinks a heroin addict stole a significant amount of cash from her house, and now she’s offering a $2,000 award to whomever is willing to help police crack the case.

Joan Kapral said someone broke into her house on River Road, kicked open a door and stole several thousand dollars, along with a 200 pound safe.

Kapral said she had a pile of cash in the home because she’s in the middle of a loan modification.

It was a significant theft,” she said.

Kapral believes the culprit is a drug addicted person her kids, who are in their 20s, recently befriended. She didn’t realize the person had a drug problem until after the crime.

I’m certain it was someone we know, and that’s why I want to get as much exposure as possible out there,” she said. They knew exactly where to go. They knew my dog, clearly, because he’s a 75-pound pitbull. A stranger would have killed the dog or locked him up.”

Kapral said the theft happened sometime between 8:30 p.m. Saturday (July 12) and 3 a.m. Sunday (July 13), while the family was out.

I have an exterior door in my bedroom and it was kicked in. The only thing ransacked in the house was my closet, where the cash was,” she said.

Lt. Robert Kozlowsky, the Shelton Police Department’s spokesman, confirmed the burglary Wednesday and said detectives are on it.

On (July 13, 2014) at approximately 3:15 am, Shelton police were dispatched to a residence on River Road for a reported burglary,” Kozlowsky said in an e‑mail. The homeowner reported to police that a large amount of cash, a safe, and some paperwork were taken.”

Kapral said information from a flier is making its way around town and through social media:

$2,000 cash reward for information that leads to the return of stolen money and/or an arrest for the burglary on River Road, Shelton on Saturday July 12.

Cash and a 200lb safe stolen!

Please call the homeowner at 203 – 446-1912 or the Shelton PD at 203 – 924-1544 ext. 4442

If you saw something or heard something, please say something.

This was a devastating blow to our family.”
