Dunne is the executive director of the Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments.
Dunne is this week’s guest on ‘Navel Gazing,’ the Valley Indy’s weekly talk show.
“The project’s been kicked again,” Dunne says at roughly the 17-minute mark of the interview.
The delay comes after Mayor Anita Dugatto recently asked the state to tweak the design of the project, though Dunne does not say the changes are the only reason for the latest delay.
The mayor made the request after a consultant criticized the widening project, saying it will result in a highway in downtown Derby that will limit economic growth within the Derby redevelopment zone on the south side of Main Street.
Dunne defends the widening project, saying the design as envisioned balances moving traffic with amenities that make it attractive to potential shoppers, pedestrians and bicyclists.
In part II, to be aired next week, Dunne gives updates on contamination in the ground at O’Sullivan’s Island, and a state-funded study regarding regionalizing area sewer systems.
