A 53-year-old motorcycle rider from Derby was killed in a crash on Route 8 Monday afternoon.
State police released an accident summary Tuesday morning saying Shawn P. Reynolds was riding his 2005 Kawasaki north near the exit 13 off ramp when he rear-ended a truck as the vehicles tried to merge into the highway’s center lane.
Reynolds was thrown from his motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police.
The truck driver was not injured.

Readers on the Valley Indy Facebook page said they witnessed the accident. Motorists stopped to help Reynolds by both praying and starting CPR on the man until medics arrived, according to posts from readers.
The crash happened at 3:54 p.m.
The wreck closed the highway for a short time. The right lane was then re-opened.
The incident created large traffic jams on Route 8 north and alternative routes in Shelton.
