Seymour Moves Forward With Paving Plan

The Seymour Board of Selectmen on Tuesday approved a contract with A & J Construction of Brookfield to pave Jay Lane and Patton Avenue this fall.

The two roads have been plagued with problems since they were chip-sealed last year.

Chip-sealing is an effort to extend the use of roads without repaving, but it resulted in complaints about the liquid asphalt and road debris getting tracked into homes and yards in the neighborhood.

Seymour has filed a lawsuit against the company that performed the work. See the town’s information page on the chip-seal process here.

In July, Seymour approved spending $350,000 to do the complete paving job on the two roads, which were classified as the town’s worst.

A referendum this fall will ask voters to approve another $5 million to repair more roads around town.

A&J Construction has agreed to complete the Jay Lane and Patton Avenue work for $319,086.

Three other companies also bid on the job.

  • Cocchiola Paving of Oakville bid $319,250.
  • Complete Construction of Ansonia bid $344,600.
  • Guerrera Construction of Oxford bid $425,715.

First Selectman Kurt Miller said the paving work could start in mid to late September and be completed by the end of October.
