Seymour Welcomes $5.5 Million Business Expansion

Courtesy of Kurt MillerAs the largest private employer in the Town of Seymour, Larry Janesky — founder, president and chief executive officer of Basement Systems, Inc. — says he has an obligation to boost the town whenever he can.

He got the chance Tuesday in front of more than 100 workers, politicians and friends at the unveiling of Basement Systems new, 37,000-square-foot, 3‑story building at its Cogwheel Lane campus.

I love Seymour,’’ Janesky said. It is a great place to do business.”

Janesky’s company employs 330, adding 38 jobs this year alone. The facility officially unveiled Tuesday is already in use. It is a combination training facility, office space, meeting rooms and warehouse.

It cost about $5.5 million to build.

We could have done it for half the price,’’ Janesky said. But this building is kind of the official entrance to the industrial park, the first thing you see when driving in. I wanted to make it first class.’’

And Janesky’s company isn’t done.

He said work has begun on another expansion at the company’s headquarters. That building, Janesky said, will be twice the size of the 37,000-square-foot building dedicated Tuesday.

State Rep. Theresa W. Conroy, D‑Seymour, and state Sen. Rob Kane, R‑Watertown, presented Janesky with a citation from the Connecticut General Assembly for his expansion project.

Conroy said Janesky and his employees make Seymour a better place to live. Kane said Janesky and Basement Systems are a driving force that make Seymour the great town it is.”

Seymour First Selectman Kurt Miller said Janesky and his employees are always giving back to Seymour and the Naugatuck Valley in general. He praised the company’s employees for their recent effort to build a playground in Ansonia.

I like to do what I can to bring the town up,’’ Janesky said.
