The man Shelton police suspect of robbing a bank last month was arrested Thursday after an armed standoff in Stratford.
In a prepared statement, Shelton Police Detective Richard Bango said the suspect, 24-year-old Bryce Laister, is scheduled to be arraigned at Superior Court in Derby Friday.
Bango said that about 6 a.m. Thursday, Shelton and Stratford cops, along with members of the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force, went to a Stratford address where they suspected Laister was staying after developing him as a suspect in two bank robberies — including a People’s Bank on Bridgeport Avenue.
There were also three warrants for Laister’s arrest on probation violation charges, and also a warrant alleging he skipped a court date related to a motor vehicle case.
“Upon arrival the homeowner answered the door and confirmed Laister was staying at the home and was upstairs at the time,” Bango said. “Upon entering the room, Laister pulled out a handgun which led to a standoff with officers. Approximately two hours later officers on scene were able to negotiate a peaceful surrender and Laister was taken into custody by Stratford Police.”
Later, Shelton cops charged Laister with the May 30 stick-up at the People’s Bank inside the Stop & Shop at 898 Bridgeport Ave.
In that case Laister faces charges of first-degree robbery, third-degree larceny, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm, and second-degree breach of peace.
Police were holding Laister in lieu of $500,000 bond, Bango said.
