Shelton Basketball Teams Raise Funds For Cancer Fight

The Shelton High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams sponsored a Suits and Sneakers” fundraiser on Friday, Feb. 1, to benefit the American Cancer Society.

The theme came from the coaches versus cancer basketball games in which coaches wear sneakers with their suits while coaching their games.

Shelton High School staff members had the opportunity to donate money to wear sneakers with their dress clothes to school to show unity in the fight against cancer.

Coaches Brian Gardiner and Mary Piccirillo spearheaded the fundraiser. In addition, the basketball teams had a Coaches v. Cancer Pink Double Header on Friday, Feb. 1.

The girls’ varsity team defeated Lyman Hall High School 42 – 32 in the 5:00 game, while the boys’ varsity team defeated Cheshire High School 74 – 56 in the 7:30 p.m.

A wall of hope” was created from the proceeds of selling cut-outs at the games. Proceeds from these events benefitted the American Cancer Society.
