Shelton Church Marks 499th Anniversary Of Reformation

On Sunday (Oct. 30) Trinity Lutheran Church located at 183 Howe Ave. in Shelton will be holding the observance of the 499th year of the Lutheran Reformation, and the opening of the Year of Repentance and Reconciliation between the Lutheran Church and the Roman Catholic Church.

Pastor Derk-Michel Strauch will be preaching that day using Martin Luther’s Deutsche Messe (German Mass) that Luther created for the simple and uneducated folk.”

This liturgical order marks a very special moment in the journey from conflict to communion between Lutherans and Catholics. This act of Christian unity will be a time of thanksgiving and confession, repentance, singing and praying, in looking ahead to comitting ourselves to common witness and commitment to the ecumenical commemoration of the 500 years of Reformation. It is a time to ask for forgiveness for the division between the two churches as they become unified to each other and for the world.

Also on the above date, Trinity will be gathering and blessing the collection of satchels for the Christmas-at-Sea Program for the Seafarers who are not able to be home with their families for Christmas. Chaplain Ruth Setaro will be visiting us that date and explaining the work and mission of the Seafarers and collect our donation of the gifts.
