Shelton Cop And New Police Dog Graduate Training With An Award

CONTRIBUTEDShelton Police Officer Dan Loris and the department’s new police dog, Stryker, graduated Thursday as part of the Connecticut State Police’s 173rd Patrol Dog Training Troop.

Loris and Stryker have been training since February in the areas of tracking, handler protection, evidence recovery, building searches, obedience, and classroom education, according to a press release from state police.

As part of Thursday’s ceremony, Loris also received the Daniel Danny” Wasson Memorial Award, given in honor of Officer Danny Wasson, a Milford police officer killed in the line of duty in 1987.

CONTRIBUTEDThe award is given to a member of the graduating class that best exemplifies Wasson’s motivation and enthusiasm.

Loris and Stryker will now be on active patrol, Shelton Police Captain Robert Kozlowsky said.

Stryker replaces the department’s former police dog, Jager, who retired last year.
