Shelton Fire Department Calls For Service

Shelton Fire Marshal James Tortora submitted the following summary of the Shelton Volunteer Fire Department’s calls from last two weeks.

On 11/21/16 at 12:39 pm the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a residential fire alarm sounding at #12 Cisco Lane. There was no fire. One engine and one rescue truck responded.

On 11/21/16 at 7:34 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a report of an odor in the home at #23 Great Oak Road. No odor or reason for any odor was found by firefighters. One engine and one rescue trucks responded.

On 11/22/16 at 00:00 the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #15 Misty Lane for an all terrain vehicle on fire. Upon arrival firefighters extinguished the fire but not before it had consumed the vehicle. Two engines responded.

On 11/23/16 at 10:57 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a commercial fire alarm sounding at #54 Grove Street. There was no fire. One engine and one ladder truck responded. 

On 11/23/16 at 4:43 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a report of a gas grill on fire in the area of Howe Avenue and Park Avenue. Firefighters found no grill on fire but a homeowner only smoking food for the holiday. One engine responded.

On 11/23/16 at 5:48 pm the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #247 Soundview Avenue for a carbon monoxide detector sounding. One engine responded.

On 11/23/16 at 8:13 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and White Hills Co. #5 responded to a residential fire alarm sounding at #354 Coram Avenue. There was no fire. One engine and one ladder truck responded.

On 11/24/16 at 05:12 am the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a residential fire alarm sounding at the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel at #25 Old Stratford Road. There was no fire. An occupant smoking in a room caused the alarm to sound. Two engines and one ladder truck responded.

On 11/24/16 at 4:23 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and White Hills Co. #5 responded to a residential fire alarm sounding at #250 Meadow Street. There was no fire. Smoking from cooking caused the alarm. One engine and one ladder truck responded.

On 11/25/16 at 10:37 am the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to an appliance fire at #15 Huntington Street. Upon arrival firefighters found a small fire in an oven due to its self cleaning operation. Two engines and one ladder truck responded.

On 11/25/16 at 11:31 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a report of a gas grill on fire on Buddington Road. There was no fire. Cooking on the grill was mistaken for the fire. One engine and one ladder truck responded.

On 11/25/16 at 12:18 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a public service call lockout at #900 Bridgeport Avenue. One rescue truck responded.

On 11/25/16 at 3:48 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a commercial fire alarm sounding at #55 Soundridge Road. There was no fire. Two engines responded.

On 11/26/16 at 11:58 am the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a residential fire alarm sounding at #505 Booth Hill Road. There was no fire. One engine, one rescue truck and one ladder truck responded.

On 11/26/16 at the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to assist EMS with a patient at # 580 Long Hill Avenue. One engine responded.

On 11/27/16 at 11:34 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a residential fire alarm sounding at the Helen Devaux Housing Complex at #91 Howe Avenue. There was no fire. One engine and one ladder truck responded.

On 11/27/16 at 4:01 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1, Huntington Co. #3 and White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at the Shelton Lakes Convalescent rehab Center at #5 lake Road. Upon arrival firefighters were made aware of a fire that had occurred in the kitchen of the facility. The fire started when a pan of liquid ignited on a stove top. The fire activated several fire sprinkler heads which extinguished the fire but caused water damage to the kitchen area. Firefighters remained on the scene to check for any fire extension and assistance facility employees. Two engines, one rescue truck and one ladder truck responded.

On 11/27/16 at 10:23 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a brush fire in the rear of #11 Sunnyside Drive. Two engines responded.

On 11/28/16 at 04:41 am the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a commercial fire alarm sounding at the Enterprise Corporate Tower #2 at #2 Corporate Drive. There was no fire. a smoke detector in a air handling unit caused the alarm. One engine and one ladder truck responded.

On 11/28/16 at 10:29 am the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a commercial fire alarm sounding at the Mark Housing Complex at #740 Bridgeport Avenue. There was no fire. The alarm was caused by workers maintaining the sprinkler system. Two engines and one ladder truck responded.

On 11/28/16 at 11:00 am the Pine Rock Co. #4 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a commercial fire alarm sounding at the Anco Engineering Company at #217 Long Hill Cross Road. There was no fire. One engine and one ladder truck responded.

On 11/28/16 at 12:38 pm the White Hills Co. #5 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a brush fire on Leavenworth Road. One engine, one brush truck and one tanker truck responded.

On 11/28/16 at 3:48 pm the White Hills Co. #5 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a brush fire on Leavenworth Road. The fire was a rekindle of the previous fire. One engine and one brush truck responded.

On 11/29/16 at 01:39 am the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a commercial fire alarm sounding at the Mark Housing Complex at #740 Bridgeport Avenue. There was no fire. a malfunction in the fire sprinkler system caused the alarm. One engine, one utility truck and one ladder truck responded.

On 11/29/16 at 12:32 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a report of power lines down in the road on Pequot Trail. One engine responded.

On 11/29/16 at 7:27 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a public service call lockout at #135 Huntington Street. One engine responded.

On 11/29/16 at 8:21 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a four car motor vehicle accident on route 8 south bound between exits 14 and 13. One engine and one rescue truck responded.

On 11/30/16 at 1:45 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to wires down in the area of Howe Avenue and Beard Street. Firefighters arrived and determined the wires were cable or tv wires that were struck by a tree the day before. One engine responded.

On 11/30/16 at 2:56 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a motor vehicle accident on route 8 south bound between exits 13 and 12. One engine and one rescue truck responded.

On 11/30/16 at 3:07 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a four car motor vehicle accident on route 8 north bound between exits 12 and 13. One engine and one rescue truck responded.

On 11/30/16 at 00:29 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to #7 Plaskon Drive extension for a carbon monoxide alarm sounding. One engine responded.

On 12/01/16 at 5:27 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to gasoline spill at the Citgo Station #442 River Road. One engine responded.

On 12/02/16 at 04:00 am the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a residential fire alarm sounding in building #5 at the Mark Housing Complex at #740 Bridgeport Avenue. There was no fire. A water leak into a smoke detector from a refrigerator ice maker caused the alarm to sound. One ladder truck responded.

On 12/02/16 at 3:24 pm the White Hills Co. #5 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a brush fire on Leavenworth Road. Two engines responded.

On 12/02/16 at 6:01 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #44 Meadowlark Lane for a carbon monoxide detector sounding. One engine responded.

On 12/02/16 at 6:13 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a residential fire alarm sounding at the Helen Devaux Housing Complex at #91 Howe Avenue. There was no fire. One engine and one ladder truck responded.

On 02/02/16 at 6:56 pm the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a commercial fire alarm sounding at #1000 Bridgeport Avenue. There was no fire. A problem with the fire sprinkler system caused the alarm. Two engines and one ladder truck responded.

On 12/03/16 at 02:55 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a four car motor vehicle accident on route 8 south bound between exits 12 and 11. One engine and one rescue truck responded.

On 12/03/16 at White Hills Co. #5 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a brush fire on Leavenworth Road. Two engines responded.

On 12/03/16 at 7:33 pm the Hills Co. #5 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a residential fire alarm sounding at #39 Hiawatha Trail. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm. Two engines responded.

On 12/03/16 at 7:40 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to an open burning fire in the area of Long Hill Avenue and Asbury Ridge Road. Firefighters checked the area and found a small campfire on Spoke Drive caused the call. One engine responded.

On 12/04/16 at 00:28 am the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a commercial fire alarm sounding at #1000 Bridgeport Avenue. There was no fire. A problem with the fire sprinkler system caused the alarm. Two engines and one ladder truck responded.

On 12/04/16 at 05:21 am the Echo Hose Co. #1, White Hills Co. #5 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a mutual aid call to the City of Derby to assist at a structure fire at #20/22 Caroline Street. The Huntington Co. #3 covered the city during the call. One engine, two ladder trucks and one rehab unit responded to Derby.

On 12/04/16 at 6:10 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a motor vehicle accident on route 8 south bound between exits 13 and 12. One engine and one rescue truck responded.

On 12/04/16 at 7:31 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to an animal rescue at #177 Remy Court. Firefighters arrived and freed a small dog that was stuck in a air handling duct in the home. One engine and one rescue truck responded.
