Shelton Fire Log

Shelton Fire Marshal James Tortora provided the following summary of the fire department’s calls last week.

On Aug. 22 at 7:09 p.m. the Pine Rock Co. #4, Echo Hose Co. #1, Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a report of an odor of smoke in the building at the Wesley Heights Retirement Living Homes at 580 Long Hill Ave. No further information was reported. Four engines, one rescue truck and two ladder trucks responded.

On Aug. 22 at 7:54 p.m. the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to 148 Far Mill St. for a leaking oil tank in the basement. Firefighters found the leak secured by an oil company repair technician. One engine responded.

On Aug. 23 at 3:50 p.m. the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a motor vehicle accident in front of 132 River Road. Two rescue trucks and one utility truck responded.

On Aug. 23 at 4:55 p.m. the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Shelton Avenue and Soundview Avenue. One rescue truck responded.

On Aug. 23 at 5:26 p.m. the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a report of an odor of gasoline at the Riverview Condominiums at 646 Howe Ave. Firefighters checked and found gasoline leaking from a portable generator caused the issue. One rescue truck and one ladder truck responded.

On Aug. 24 at 12:08 a.m. the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a fire alarm sounding at Precision Resource Service, 25 Forest Parkway. There was no fire. One engine responded.

On Aug. 24 at 6:09 p.m. the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to the parking garage at the Avalon Shelton at 185 Canal St. for a car leaking gasoline. One rescue truck responded.

On Aug. 25 at 10:50 a.m. Huntington Co. #3 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on Bridgeport Avenue near Trap falls Road. Upon arrival police officers notified the fire department that there was no accident but only a disabled vehicle. Fire units were cancelled.

On Aug. 25 at 1:44 p.m. the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to the area of 945 Howe Ave. for wires down in the road. The wires, phone line and cable wires, were secured off the road by firefighters. One engine responded.

On Aug. 25 at 8:48 p.m. the Pine Rock Co. #4 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a motor vehicle accident on River Road near Quail Court. One engine, two rescue trucks and one utility truck responded.

On Aug. 27 at the Echo Hose Co. #1, Pine Rock Co. #4 and White Hills Co. #5 responded to a structure fire at 141 Long Hill Ave. Upon arrival firefighters found a small fire in a bathroom in a second floor apartment. Firefighters extinguished the fire in minutes containing the fire to the bathroom and its contents. The remainder of the apartment sustained smoke damage. Two engines one rescue truck and one ladder truck responded.

On Aug. 27 at 9:21 p.m. the Pine Rock Co. #4 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a report of open burning on an island on the Housatonic River off River Road. Firefighters responded with a marine unit and found occupants on the island had a campfire.

On Aug. 28 at 5:29 p.m. the White Hills Co. #5 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to an automatic fire alarm sounding at the Jones Family Farm, 606 Walnut Tree Hill Road. There was no fire. Firefighters found a smoke detector activated in the kitchen in a building on the farm. Two engines, one rescue truck and one tanker truck responded.

On Aug. 28 at 11:12 p.m. the Pine Rock Co. #4 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to Gardner Heights Hospital at 172 Rocky Rest Road for a report of a bush on fire in front of the facility. Two engines responded.

On Aug. 29 at 05:47 a.m. the Huntington Co. #3 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to an automatic fire alarm sounding at 83 Old Stratford Road. No further information was reported. Two engines responded.

On Aug. 29 at 7:00 a.m. the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to the AmeriSuites Hotel, 695 Bridgeport Ave. for a fire alarm sounding. There was no fire. A faulty detector on the second floor of the five story hotel was the cause. One engine and one ladder truck responded.
