Shelton Home Burns Again

A cottage in the Maples section of Shelton damaged by fire last week caught fire again Sunday evening.

Shelton firefighters responded to extinguish the flames in the home — 143 in the Maples — for a second time in four days. There were no injuries.

The city’s fire marshal said the cause of the blaze, reported about 6 p.m. Sunday, is under investigation.

We’re working on what caused it right now,” the fire marshal, James Tortora, said Monday.

The electricity and other utilities to the building had been cut after firefighters first responded to Thursday’s blaze, which killed a pet dog.

Right now it looks like it was a re-kindle but we’re not positive,” Tortora said.

A re-kindle means, essentially, that a fire reignites after being extinguished initially.
