Shelton Honors Teen’s Memory

In the wake of the November car accident tragedy that took the life of their daughter Viviana, the Cavalli and Tutka Families banded together with the local community, friends and families to form the Shelton Butterfly Project.

They held their first annual butterfly release Sunday at the Shelton Riverwalk.

The Shelton Butterfly Project is a new, local non-profit organization formed by the family of Viviana Cavalli and community leaders to help raise awareness in our community about the impact of drinking and wreckless driving and how it effects the entire community.

At the butterfly release Sunday The Shelton Butterfly Project awarded two $2,500 dollar scholarships to two Shelton High School seniors who answered a written essay on the dangers of drinking and wreckless driving. The winners Devonna Lotka and Lindsay Strouse.

Five hundred butterflies were released in the names of friends and loved ones of attendants. Participants could read the name of their release name at microphone for everyone to hear before the release.

Dee Tutka, the mother of Viviana Cavalli, wanted to thank the entire community on behalf of the Cavalli and Tutka families for their ongoing support of the Shelton Butterfly Project and the way the community has opened their hearts and hands to such an important cause effecting our children today.

Business owners and community leaders Chris Jones of Premier Hardwood Flooring, and William Tortora of WST Building and Remodeling, also of Echo Hose Hook & Latter in Shelton, will be working in the upcoming months on more projects in the community that will help to benefit The Shelton Butterfly Project and to promote awareness through out our community.
