A man arrested after he allegedly broke into two Shelton businesses has also been linked to a robbery and yet another break-in, according to police.
In a prepared statement, Shelton Police Detective Richard Bango said 30-year-old Nicholas Szustecki was first arrested Dec. 26, 2016 for burglarizing Porky’s cafe on Center Street and Steller’s Garage on Bridgeport Avenue.
In those cases he faces two counts each of third-degree burglary, possession of burglar’s tools, and criminal mischief, in addition to a single count of sixth-degree larceny.
Bango said police linked Szustecki to a Dec. 23 attempted robbery of the Subway restaurant on Howe Avenue and a Christmas Day break-in at the American Russian Club, also on Howe Avenue.
Bango said during the Subway incident Szustecki “implied he had a gun but did not get away with any money.”
He said Szustecki stole the Russian club’s cash register and some bottles of liquor.
Szutecki has been behind bars since his Dec. 26 arrest.
Shelton police lodged new charges — attempted second-degree robbery, third-degree burglary, and sixth-degree larceny — against Szustecki when he arrived at Superior Court in Derby Friday (March 10) for a scheduled appearance in the previous cases.
