Shelton Overdose Death Prompts Arrest

A Shelton man has been charged with selling drugs to a man who died from an overdose last year.

Jerome Downing, 39, is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday on two counts of selling narcotics. 

In a prepared statement, Detective Richard Bango said a 37-year-old man was discovered dead in his home Sept. 17, 2016 from an apparent overdose.

Police did not identify the man.

It was later confirmed through autopsy, the man overdosed on a combination of heroin and cocaine,” Bango said. A subsequent investigation by Shelton Detectives revealed the man purchased drugs earlier that day from 39 year old Jerome Downing of Shelton.”

Downing was being held on $25,000 bond Wednesday to be arraigned at Superior Court in Derby, Bango said.
