Shelton Police Investigate Fatal Crash

Update: Shelton police have identified two people killed in a River Road crash Sunday.

Shalymar Herrera, 18, of West Haven, and Briana Torres-Carter, 23, of Bridgeport, were killed in the crash which occurred about 7 p.m. near 661 River Road.

Torres-Carter was pregnant, according to police.

Herrera and Torres-Carter were passengers in a Mini Cooper going south on River Road when it collided with a Saturn traveling north, Lt. Robert Kozlowsky said in a prepared statement.

The driver of the Mini Cooper was 19-year-old Lawrence Carter of Bridgeport. 

Carter is in the hospital in critical condition, Kozlowsky said. 

Another passenger, 19-year-old Bridegeport resident Jessie Abrams, is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A third, non-contact vehicle” was involved in the crash as well.

Police have identified the vehicle and the driver of the non-contact vehicle,” Kozlowsky said. 

The driver of the Saturn was 25-year-old Caitlin Kalafus of Pennsylvania. She was taken to the hospital. 

The two passengers in the Saturn were 22-year-old Carly Kalafus and 26-year-old Paul Valleau, also of Pennsylvania, who were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

Kozlowsky asked anyone who saw the accident to call police.

Two people were killed in a car crash in Shelton Sunday.

The crash involved two cars. It happened at about 7 p.m. in the area of 661 River Road.

Other individuals were taken to area hospitals for injuries sustained in the crash,” police said.
