Shelton Police Seek Identify Of Purse Thief

Shelton police are asking for help from the public to identify a purse thief who ran up more than $4,000 in fraudulent purchases on a 64-year-old woman’s credit card.

According to a prepared statement from Detective Richard Bango, the victim was shopping at TJ Maxx in Shelton July 27 when she was approached by a Hispanic female who asked if she would try on an article of clothing for her because she had the same figure of the person she was buying for.”

The victim agreed and tried on the clothing for the woman,” Bango said. When the victim exited the dressing room she discovered her purse was stolen from her shopping cart.”

Later that day, she learned that $4,187 was charged to her credit card at the Apple store in the Trumbull mall.

Police distributed the surveillance photographs above of the woman who made the purchases.

Bango asked that if anyone recognizes the woman in the photographs to contact the Shelton Police Department at 203 – 924-1544.
