Shelton Stabbing Prompts Four Arrests

Shelton police have filed charges against four people in connection to a stabbing at a party in May.

In a prepared statement, Shelton Police Detective Christopher Nugent said staff at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport contacted Shelton cops May 2 shortly after midnight regarding a 19 year old female that came into the hospital suffering from a stab wound which was reported to have occurred in Shelton.”

Police interviewed the woman, who said she was at a party in Shelton where a fight broke out and she was stabbed.

The woman was treated at the hospital for a cut to her head and a stab wound to her back, police said.

A subsequent investigation by detectives revealed that a fight broke out between two females and several people that were at the party jumped into the fight,” Nugent’s statement said. The fight reportedly began inside the residence and spilled outside, where it eventually ended.”

The statement did not indicate where the party took place.

Charged in the case are: 

  • Merita Rugova, 18, of Center St., charged with aiding and abetting second-degree assault, third-degree assault, and second-degree breach of peace. Police said Rugova was involved in the assault on the victim.”
  • A 17-year-old juvenile female from West Haven, charged with second-degree assault, conspiracy to commit second-degree assault, and second-degree breach of peace. Police said the juvenile is believed to be responsible for stabbing the victim.”
  • A 17-year-old juvenile female from Shelton, charged with third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace
  • Jeremy Thompson, 18, of River Road, charged with interfering with an officer after misleading investigators,” Nugent’s statement said.

Rugova and Thompson have posted bonds of $5,000 and $1,000, respectively, and are due at Superior Court in Derby July 21.

Details of juvenile court cases are confidential under state law.
